Integrated supply chain streamlined production of 50-unit PDA chargers

For companies with dispersed supply chains, finding a way to integrate assembly processes can increase efficiency. Initially contracted for its sheet metal services, ETM also provided low-cost electro-mechanical assembly services to save an international company time and money.



Having designed a next-generation PDA charger for its handheld audio and visual tours, Antenna International needed ETM’s sheet metal services for building the charging stations and managing the electronics integration process.

As a large international company with a dispersed supply chain, Antenna International was looking for a company to not only construct the stations but also receive and assemble the printed circuit boards, wire harnesses, and electrical wiring all at an appropriately-priced cost.


Already qualified by Antenna International as its sheet metal provider, ETM decided to significantly expand its service options by taking on the additional electro-mechanical work. Upon building the sheet metal frames for the 50-unit PDA charging stations, ETM handled the final assembly, successfully running 15 units through hi-pot tests.


Antenna International contracted ETM to create an additional 185 chargers. The integrated supply chain streamlined production while direct shipment of the TUV-approved chargers to Antenna International’s customers saved time and money.

Rather than having to contract one company for fabrication and machining services and another for assembly, Antenna International found an all-inclusive low-cost alternative in ETM. According to Ed Buckley, Antenna International’s director of technology, “We needed a partner that would meet our rigorous quality standards and be able to ramp quickly without any loss of integrity – ETM was the one.”
