Air Bending

Air bending is a basic metal bending technique in which a punch is pressed into sheet metal, forcing the metal into a bottom V-die. Because the punch never fully contacts the workpiece and thus never touches the bottom of the V, the bend’s inside radius depends almost completely on the size of the V opening, not the size of the punch tip. Air bending sheet metal thus allows a manufacturer to change bend radii just by changing the bottom die, allowing for more custom design options and greater variety in materials, thicknesses, and angles.
